About Matthew J. Slaughter

Matthew Slaughter is the Paul Danos Dean, the Earl C. Daum 1924 Professor of International Business, and the founding Faculty Director of the Center for Business, Government & Society at the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College. Dean Slaughter’s area of expertise is the economics and politics of globalization.

 

Many articles by Dean Slaughter have been published as book chapters and in peer-reviewed journals such as American Economic Review, Journal of International Economics, and Brookings Papers on Economic Activity. He also coauthored the books The Squam Lake Report: Fixing the Financial System (2010) and Globalization and the Perceptions of American Workers (2001). He has served in various editorial positions for Journal of International Business Studies, The World Economy, Review of International Economics, Journal of Development Economics, and Journal of International Trade and Development, and has presented at many academic conferences and seminars.

 

In addition to his positions at the university, Dean Slaughter is also currently a Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research, an adjunct Senior Fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations, a member of the advisory committee of the Export-Import Bank of the United States, a member of the academic advisory board of the International Tax Policy Forum, an academic advisor to the McKinsey Global Institute, and a newly elected fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. From 2005 to 2007, Dean Slaughter served as a Member on the Council of Economic Advisers in the Executive Office of the President. He frequently testifies before both chambers of the U.S. Congress and regularly contributes op-eds to The Financial Times, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and The Washington Post.

 

Prior to joining the Tuck faculty in 2002, Dean Slaughter had been on the faculty of the economics department at Dartmouth since 1994. In 2001 he received Dartmouth’s John M. Manley Huntington Teaching Award, and in 2012 he received Tuck’s Class of 2011 Teaching Excellence Award.
