Now that the court has rejected the Google Books settlement, what will happen next? What does it mean for the world of e-books, and what might happen with Google's immense digital library? Professor James Grimmelmann moderates a discussion with noted digital copyright experts Jonathan Band and Kenneth Crews to trace the history of Google's plan to scan the world's books and the controversial settlement in the lawsuit filed against it by copyright owners. The 80-minute video of the discussion is available online.

Professor Grimmelmann’s post announcing the video goes on to say:

We discuss Google’s scanning project, the lawsuit against it by copyright owners, the proposed settlement and the controversy around it, Judge Chin’s opinion rejecting the settlement, possible next steps for the parties, and some of the larger issues raised by the case. It’s a self-contained overview of how the settlement got to where it is now and what might happen next, designed to be informative no matter how little or how much you already know about the case.
