Evan Selinger is a Professor of Philosophy at Rochester Institute of Technology and an Affiliate Scholar at Northeastern University’s Center for Law, Innovation, and Creativity. He is also a Senior Fellow at the Future of Privacy Forum. Professor Selinger’s research primarily addresses ethical issues concerning technology, including artificial intelligence, science, and the law.
Professor Selinger writes for popular magazines, newspapers, and blogs, including Wired, The Atlantic, Slate, Wall Street Journal, The Nation, The Guardian, Salon, CNN, Bloomberg Opinion, The BBC, The Christian Science Monitor, New Scientist, Aeon, Forbes, and Huffington Post. His latest books are Re-Engineering Humanity (co-authored with Brett Frischmann) and The Cambridge Companion to Consumer Privacy (co-edited with Jules Polonetsky and Omer Tene), both published by Cambridge University Press in the spring of 2018.
Professor Selinger is a member of the Institute for Defense on Analysis‘s Legal, Moral, and Ethical (LME) Working Group. This group contributes to a DARPA-funded project that uses artificial intelligence to responsibly enhance the autonomy of non-lethal technological systems. Additionally, he also works with legal and advocacy organizations like the ACLU, Stop Surveillance Technology Oversight Project, The Justice Collaborative Institute, and Fight for the Future in order to enhance public policy.
