Michael Mattioli

Michael Mattioli is an Associate Professor of Law at the Indiana University Maurer School of Law. He teaches and writes on intellectual property, with a special emphasis on patents, and on contract law. Professor Mattioli's research examines how new forms of knowledge-sharing and collective licensing influence patenting, industrial organization, and the process of innovation itself. He is also an active affiliated faculty member of the Center for Intellectual Property Research.

Professor Mattioli has made significant contributions to the field, having published articles in leading law reviews that examine patent pools, research consortia, novel forms of patent protection, and property "opt-outs." Most recently, he has examined how the design of patent licenses and related contracts can influence long-term technological development. Before coming to Maurer Law, Professor Mattioli was the Microsoft Research Fellow at the Berkeley Center for Law and Technology at UC Berkeley School of Law and the Microsoft Fellow in Law, Economics, and Technology at the University of Michigan Law School.
